Aus dem Auslobungstext: Die Stadt Mengen beabsichtigt den Neubau eines Kinderhauses westlich der Kernstadt im Bereich des ehemaligen Stadtgrabens. Das Kinderhaus soll insgesamt für 12 Gruppen geplant werden. Die Realisierung ist in zwei Bauabschnitten geplant. Im ersten Bauabschnitt sollen zwei Gruppen 3-6 Jahre und 4 Krippengruppen und im zweiten Bauabschnitt 4 weitere Krippengruppen und 2 Gruppen Ü3 realisiert werden. Die auf dem Wettbewerbsgrundstück bestehende 3-gruppige Kindertagesstätte soll dabei im ersten Bauabschnitt erhalten bleiben. Für den mittelfristig folgenden zweiten Bauabschnitt (ca. 5-8 Jahre), steht dann auch die Fläche des heutigen Kindergartens zur Verfügung. Dieser wird dann aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen und mit dem Ziel eines stimmigen und nachhaltigen Gesamtkonzeptes abgebrochen.
