Nun ist endlich die Entwurfsplanung nach langem Ringen abgeschlossen.
Nach der Beauftragung im Juni 2014 hat die ARGE auf Wunsch der Stadt zahlreiche neue Varianten erarbeitet und überprüft. Im September 2016 dann kam zu der Diskussion um die Gestaltung, bzw. Anordnung des Daches/der Dächer auch noch die Autospuren-Debatte hinzu. Der ursprünglichen Wettbewerbsvorgabe, die Friedrich-Ebert-Straße vierspurig zu belassen, stand nun der Wunsch des neuen Baubürgermeisters, eine zweispurige Lösung auszuführen, gegenüber. Am 12. Oktober hatte sich der Gemeinderat in einer Sitzung für die Drei-Spuren-Lösung ausgesprochen. Knapp eine Woche später, am 18. Oktober 2016 wurde die „Dächerfrage“ im Fachbereichsausschuss Stadtentwicklung, Bau und Umwelt des Gemeinderats entschieden. Die von Hullak Rannow/Hummert mitentwickelte Alternative (eine große Überdachung vor dem Bahnhofseingang und vier kleine Dächer an den Nahverkehrshalten) sollten gebaut werden.
