Der dafür extra gegründete Zweckverband Flugfeld Böblingen/Sindelfingen treibt die Entwicklung und Vermarktung dieses Areals voran. 2006 wurde mit der Erschließung des Geländes begonnen. 2009 eröffnete die MOTORWORLD Region Stuttgart, der Publikumsmagnet für Oldtimer- und PS-Begeisterte auf dem Gelände. Die MOTORWORLD ist ein Projekt der ACTIV-GROUP. (www.flugfeld.info) Von HRM wurden in den letzten vier Jahren unterschiedliche Projekte für die ACTIV-GROUP im Bereich des Flugfelds entwickelt. Alle bewegen sich im autoaffinen Bereich. Auch ein Masterplan für das gesamte Gelände wurde erstellt. Als erster Baustein wurde das „Alte Empfangsgebäude“ saniert und mit einem gläsernen Neubau ergänzt. Es entstanden Räume für moderne Gastronomie mit Biergarten, Eventflächen sowie ein Flugsimulations-Center. Der Spatenstich fand am 29. Juni 2015 statt. Mittlerweile ist das Gebäude fertiggestellt.
